Over the weekend and through last night several artists have fed their fans by way of LIVE streams. Ellen continued her show, so to speak, with FaceTimes to Kevin Hart, Tiffany Haddish, Michelle Obama. Noelle Robinson, daughter of Cynthia Bailey and Leon, is a tik tok goddess and Gina Yashere has kept us company as well with her witty contributions.
With live concerts cancelled indefinitely, Erykah Badu took things to another dimension. Badu and team pulled a rabbit out of her hat Monday night by hosting a live concert from her bedroom; full band, background vocals, 808s and all. Ticket price was just $1. She also had a full blown online store, with merch available for sale ranging in prices from $60 to $250. Most of the items were sold out by the end of the show.
This was more than a concert tho. This performance toyed closely with being in an Erykah Badu jam session. We shared real studio time with Erykah Badu. The playlist was sporadic – off the cusp and required the participation of the viewers. Badu would cast a poll to start and, after each song, pinning 2 hits against each other. Bag lady, YeYo, Healer, On and On, Afro (freestyle skit) – just a few of the winners we championed during the 3hr long set.
